Meet our team!

At Élmény Tár, we not only strive to build a partnership with the children, but there is also no hierarchy amongst our staff.
Let us make decisions together, set out our professional direction and stand up for a cause.
We support one another, discuss our problems and work through our difficulties.
Our team of volunteers, the ÉlményTársak, are also a key pillar of our professional work.

Bogi Balogh

My name is Bogi and I’ve been involved with Élmény Tár since September 2023. I started out as a volunteer, then moved on to an internship, and now I work as a mentor at the learning centre.

Kata Undi

My name is Kata, and I’m a final-year student of special educational needs. I first became involved with Élmény Tár as a volunteer in 2013, and I’ve maintained close ties with the community ever since. Although there have been a few breaks over the years, big and small, I’ve always found myself back here time and again.

Eszti Takács

I work as a social media manager on a day-to-day basis, and I also support Élmény Tár in this area. I first joined the Élmény Tár team in 2020 as a volunteer and communications officer. I came across the opportunity through a Facebook advert, so I am living proof of the power of social media.

Kata Farkas

I joined as a mentor in 2023. I believe it is important to treat children as equals from a young age, as this enables them to form honest opinions and stand up for themselves.

Mentor

My name is Bogi and I’ve been involved with Élmény Tár since September 2023. I started out as a volunteer, then moved on to an internship, and now I work as a mentor at the learning centre. I fell in love with the school whilst I was still a volunteer; I wanted to contribute as much as possible to its running, which is why I applied for an internship. As an intern, I really enjoyed all the behind-the-scenes tasks, and now I’m able to help even more behind the scenes. What I love about the school is that we’re open to everything and we put lots of innovative ideas into practice! We welcome everyone’s ideas and feedback! What I love about my work is that I can carry out my tasks within an accepting, open community. If I have any questions, I get help straight away. What’s more, I can let my creativity run wild. Whatever ideas I have, I’m happy to share them with the group, because I know they’ll be welcomed with open arms. As well as the administrative work, my favourite part is the time I spend with the children. I love connecting with them whilst they’re learning and, of course, playing with them afterwards. That’s when I can bring out my inner child too. As well as working at the after-school club, I’m currently studying psychology at university. In my spare time, I enjoy spending time with my friends, crocheting and reading.

Kata Undi

Mentor

As a mentor, I particularly love the fact that at Élmény Tár we’re given free rein and the space to try out new methods and respond flexibly to the children’s needs, so that we can really pay attention to them. That’s why the moments when they achieve a small sense of success and are visibly proud of themselves are so important to me. I believe that these shared experiences will have a lasting impact on them.

Mentor Plus

Volunteer and Intern Coordinator

I graduated with a degree in Social Studies from the University of Pécs, then started a Master’s degree in Social Policy but dropped out. Over the years, I’ve worked in many different places: I’ve worked in the hospitality industry both at home and abroad; I’ve mainly worked with children in the social sector, on projects and in the voluntary sector; and it would be difficult to list all the places where I’ve done voluntary work. Fortunately, my frequent changes of job did not raise any doubts amongst the team at Élmény Tár when they saw my CV in the spring of 2023. Since then, I’ve been working part-time as a mentor, and my latest role has been coordinating our new internship programme. It feels really good to be part of the team; I’ve never worked in such an open, welcoming and growth-oriented environment before, and I feel that I can finally spend my working hours in a truly great place.

Head of Department

I am a teacher specialising in Hungarian and library studies; I applied to Élmény Tár in 2018 in order to complete the teaching placement required for my studies. Both the mentors and the children welcomed me very quickly; I immediately found my place in this community, and before I knew it, I realised that I too was part of the fantastic team of mentors. Right from the start, I loved the opportunities offered by Élmény Tár: the variety of teaching methods, the range of leisure activities and the child-centred approach. I believe it is important that we give the children entrusted to our care something to take with them that they will remember even in adulthood.

Maintenance matters

I’m a Romologist and a drama teacher. I was one of the founding members of Élmény Tár, and I’m really delighted that I can now run this brilliant place as part of a proper team, alongside my colleagues. I love that we work out the direction together and make decisions as a team. It feels really good to create a place that is truly for the children, and that we shape it ourselves to be just the way we want it. I love that Élmény Tár is a real community together with the children – that we laugh together, sometimes even cry together, grow together, and are happy for one another. It’s a good feeling when even teenagers come back to us and ask for help. That’s when we know our message has hit home.

Co-leader, ‘You Are Not Alone’ programme leader

The ‘You Are Not Alone’ programme, as part of which we run support groups for young girls. I feel it is my mission to work actively to ensure that child protection is truly about the children. I’m really pleased that this has become another focus for Élmény Tár, and that we’re able to bring so many ideas to life.

Mentor

I came across Élmény Tár whilst studying for my undergraduate degree at university. I signed up as a volunteer because I wanted to gain practical experience in a field where I could see myself working in the future. At the learning centre, I found a team where we support and inspire one another, and we’re not afraid to grow and try new things. I’d like to pass on this mindset to the children who come to us. One of my favourite parts of my days here is when we gather at the start of the afternoon and discuss together who’s taking part in what that day. Children and adults arrive in a slightly different way every day: their moods are different, their needs are different, and they want to spend time together doing different things. Over the course of the day, we get to know each other a little better, and by the time snack time comes around, we’re already sitting round the kitchen table as a close-knit community.

Panna Lantos

Mentor

I graduated with a Bachelor’s degree in Education from the University of Pécs; whilst I was a student, I followed the activities of Élmény Tár and was very taken with the approach it embodies. At first, I wasn’t sure whether I wanted to work with children, but over time I became increasingly convinced of how important it is to motivate the younger generation and to create a sense of value and community with and for them. I’m particularly interested in emotional and social learning and education, and the development of personal and social skills, especially when this can be achieved through physical activity or play. I am delighted to be part of a team that is so receptive to new ideas and open to development.

Patrik Kiss

Mentor

I mentioned that I’ve done voluntary work in several schools; working with young people and children has always been important to me. I come from a poor village, and I was a pupil at a village school myself. Although not at the time, as I grew older I realised just how life-changing and sustaining the power of such a community can be. I know exactly how much security an accepting environment provides in everyday life. Whilst writing this text, I realised that throughout my life so far, I have constantly been surrounded by a supportive cocoon. During my primary school years, the after-school centre was the place I could always go to, even just for help with my studies. In secondary school, too, I was given valuable lessons that have shaped my personality today and have greatly strengthened my Roma identity, and this supportive environment can also be found at university, where I am part of a community. This community uses various methods to teach us, for example, critical thinking, and also provides academic support.

Communication

I’ve been an intern at Élmény Tár since March 2024. Outside of my time at the dance studio, I work for an IT company and am studying psychology by correspondence. When I’m not working, studying or dancing, I enjoy spending time with my friends and family, cooking, chatting and playing chess. Once the internship programme ends, I’ll be joining the communications team, where we’ll continue to work hard to raise Tancsi’s profile, promote the organisation and build and maintain our corporate relationships.  What I love most about our work is knowing that what we do is meaningful. All our plans and goals are focused on the children’s interests, learning and development, and it’s good to see that not only we, but other people too, consider this important. Our work is smooth-running, creative and varied, and thanks to the feedback we receive, it’s crystal clear that the time and energy we invest really do make a difference.
