MENTOR FAMILIES
Every child attending the Élmény Tár has their own mentor, with whom they develop a close, trusting relationship and to whom they feel they belong. Mentors and their mentees form small groups known as ‘mentor families’.
Personal work is thus carried out on three levels:
Large group: the entire Élmény Tár community
Small group: mentor families
Individual: mentor-mentee relationship
These three levels bring a great sense of dynamism to our work, our development projects and our community activities alike.
Through one-to-one mentoring, we try to make the children realise that we are always there for them; they can rely on us and get in touch with us whenever they need help.
PERSONALISATION, TALENT DEVELOPMENT
We have seen from numerous examples in our work and through our own experiences that success in adulthood does not depend on having perfect academic results. What matters far more for success is how well someone can work with others, how creative they are, how open they are to others and to new situations, and how they are able to handle conflicts that arise.
In addition to all this, it is also very important that children experience a sense of achievement and receive the appropriate recognition and appreciation, so that they can develop a healthy sense of self-worth.
Based on these principles, one of the cornerstones of our educational approach is the nurturing of talent and the development of abilities and skills, with particular emphasis on individual development and the development of social skills.
In our personalised learning programmes, we ensure that every pupil progresses in their own way and at their own pace, in line with their abilities and learning preferences. We assess and take into account the children’s learning styles.
A learning style is a set of individual, stable characteristics that influence a child’s processing of information and the way they perceive their environment.
