‘The Awakening of Spring’ theatre education programme – based on Wedekind’s play of the same name
Being young these days is an incredible challenge. Adults often feel powerless in the face of the problems faced by the younger generations. Is this really the case?
Reading Wedekind’s play, written more than 130 years ago, one gets the feeling that the essence of the matter has not changed. There are still countless taboos, and we are still afraid to touch on sensitive subjects. But how, then, should we go about it? How can we use our knowledge, life experience and sensitivity to support young people through what they are currently going through? What can we do to ensure they suffer less harm? Can we create an atmosphere of trust in which different generations can share things with one another and learn from each other? We sought answers to these and similar questions with four actors, a drama teacher, a sex educator, a writer, director and art therapy trainee, and two group leaders specialising in a trauma-informed approach. The result is an educational theatre performance in which, before, between and after the staged scenes, the four actors reflect together with the young people, unpacking and processing what they have seen and what has happened to the characters. We believe in the engaging power of theatre, in its ability to provide a shared experience in the here and now that breaks down all barriers and paves the way for a living dialogue.
The programme lasts approximately 90 minutes, and only one class can take part at a time.
We recommend this performance for secondary school pupils!
The programme was established through a collaboration between the ÉLMÉNYLELŐ YOUTH ASSOCIATION (ÉLMÉNY TÁR) in Pécs and the ORMÁNSÁGI CULTURAL MISSION ASSOCIATION, with funding from the community (Pécs Community Foundation – Swimathon) and with the support of the Dutch Embassy – Human Rights Fund.

A debate on equal opportunities in education
Using the Vox Pop debate game developed by the Foundation for Democratic Youth, we discuss with the group whether everyone is given equal opportunities within the Hungarian education system. We divide the group into two small groups. In accordance with the rules and framework of the debate, the discussion on the proposed statement takes place in small ‘for’ and ‘against’ groups.
In this module, participants will learn about the circumstances that contribute to children living in extreme poverty often finding it harder to succeed at school; the group’s culture of discussion will also develop.

Our house has a kitchen, a meeting room and a TV, whilst our garden features a barbecue, a climbing wall, a covered terrace, a covered table with chairs, a table tennis table, a slide, a table football table and a trampoline.

Factory town walk
The Gyárváros walk is a special, Interactive tour of the industrial estate. In Pécs, tourists usually only visit the city centre, the Mecsek hills, or museums and historic monuments that form part of the World Heritage Site, the border regions, suburbs, segregated areas they always remain hidden. The mission of Élmény Tár is to shed light on this side of the city too, as this is the only way there is any chance of the situation changing for the better; that is why we take the walk’s participants on a tour of such a suburb.
The industrial district of Pécs, with its former mining settlements, industrial heritage, rich history and today’s diverse social fabric, offers a wealth of opportunities.
