Who was the adult in your life who believed in you even when others didn\u2019t? Whose single sentence was enough to help you pull yourself together, set goals, or simply not give up?<\/i><\/p>

For some children, this adult never appears in their lives. These are the children who need a mentor. Mentoring is not merely a social service or programme, but the presence of an adult who has the child\u2019s best interests at heart \u2013 and that is precisely why it is invaluable.<\/p>

What is the essence of mentoring?<\/b><\/h2>

A mentor is not a teacher, not a parent, not a psychologist. A mentor is present<\/i>. Regularly, consistently and with empathy. The mentor does not regard academic progress as the primary goal, but rather the development of the child\u2019s whole personality. They understand, accept and support the child.<\/p>

The mentor stands by the child. They do not act in the child\u2019s place, but alongside them. They do not tell the child what to do, but listen to them, support them, guide them and \u2013 perhaps most importantly \u2013 is always present<\/b>.<\/p>

What does having a mentor mean?<\/b><\/h2>

A mentor helps to build self-confidence and self-awareness, improves academic performance and boosts motivation. With their help, a child\u2019s emotional life becomes more balanced. They are the ones who listen to the child\u2019s voice, maintain contact with the family and the school, and always keep the child\u2019s best interests at heart. They support the children and act as a link between them and the adult world around them. They interpret situations, build bridges and ease tensions.\u00a0<\/p>

Social impact \u2013 long-term benefits<\/b><\/h2>

The impact of mentoring is felt not only at an individual level, but also at the level of the wider community: it reduces school drop-out rates, increases social mobility, eases the burden on child protection and psychiatric services, breaks down prejudices and strengthens community ties. Furthermore, it helps children to develop a more well-founded vision of the future and set clearer goals.<\/p>

Mentoring is one of the most effective preventative<\/i> a tool, as it helps prevent social and mental health problems later on.<\/p>

What can a mentor help with?<\/b><\/h2>

If there is someone in a child\u2019s life who listens to them, who believes in them, who never leaves them alone, It could change not only his childhood, but his whole life<\/b>.<\/p>
